Autocoater

Autocoater

What Is Autocoater

An autocoater is an automated tablet coating machine used in pharmaceutical manufacturing to apply a uniform layer of film, enteric, or sugar coating over compressed tablets. It uses a perforated rotating pan combined with controlled spray rate, airflow, and temperature to deliver consistent coating coverage and accurate weight gain across every batch.

Unlike manual coating methods, an autocoater operates within a fully enclosed, parameter-driven environment, reducing operator dependency, minimising contamination risk, and ensuring repeatable results at any production scale. Equipped with PLC controls, SCADA data logging, and compliance features such as 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP5, it is a critical piece of equipment for cGMP-compliant oral solid dosage manufacturing.

Automated coating systems engineered for every application.

Two coating equipment configurations designed to handle standard and high-containment tablet coating requirements, with precise control over spraying, airflow, and process parameters at every stage.

Tablet Coater

The F Plus Tablet Coater is an automated coating system that handles film, enteric, and sugar coating applications in a single piece of equipment, eliminating the need for multiple machines across different coating types. Featuring an anti-breading spray nozzle for clean, consistent application, an IR sensor for real-time product temperature monitoring, and interchangeable pans for flexible batch sizes, it is designed to deliver uniform coating and repeatable results across production cycles. With 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP5-compliant IPC control, SCADA data logging, and automatic tablet charging and discharging, the Tablet Coater is built for efficient, cGMP-compliant commercial-scale operation.

Containment Coater

The F Plus Containment Coater is engineered for tablet coating applications that demand an additional level of operator and environmental protection, particularly for potent, cytotoxic, or highly sensitising compounds. Designed with a fully contained process zone, it maintains all the coating versatility and process control of the standard Tablet Coater while incorporating containment features that minimise exposure risk during charging, coating, and discharging. Built to meet ATEX, CE, GAMP5, and cGMP compliance requirements, it supports high-containment pharmaceutical manufacturing without compromising coating quality or production efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions before you begin?

Start with the essentials, then speak with our team about your formulation, capacity and facility requirements.

A pharmaceutical autocoater is an enclosed, automated system that applies film, enteric, or sugar coating to tablets using controlled spraying, airflow, temperature, and pan movement.

It controls spray rate, atomisation, airflow, inlet and exhaust conditions, product temperature, and pan speed, helping maintain uniform coverage and repeatable weight gain across a batch.

Yes. A suitably configured F Plus Tablet Coater can support film, enteric, and sugar coating applications, subject to the formulation, process recipe, batch size, and required accessories.

A containment coater is considered for potent, cytotoxic, or highly sensitising compounds where operator and environmental exposure must be controlled during charging, coating, sampling, and discharge.

Configurations can include PLC control, SCADA data logging, recipe management, and features aligned with cGMP, GAMP5, and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.
